We are approximately 2.5 days away from Turkey Bowl VII. What a historic run it has been. We’ve seen everything from near scraps, to collisions, to last play wins and endless amounts of shit talk. Word is that this may be the last TB on Werner, so we owe it to all involved to go out with a bang.
With that being said, here are 7 storylines to keep track of on Saturday:
Can AK bring his team back?
Austin did not play QB last year due to a pec injury and this severely hurt his team. The Raiders lacked the ability to consistently make plays through the air which lead to a lopsided Chiefs win. But it’s a new year and AK is back with a vengeance and will look to leave no doubt.
Will Nate O’Halloran give the Raiders an edge?
We all know Nate is a guy. He will bring a rare combination of size/strength/speed/dick on Saturday that the Chiefs haven’t seen before. No one man will slow Nate down so it will take every guy on the roster to get a piece and take some football out of him.
Will the new dads be affected by all of the new responsibilities?
Since we last played a Turkey Bowl, 3 Chiefs have produced a child and 1 may have one at the game. The Chiefs will be without new father and savage (Eric Cunningham) and the fans are wondering will the other members be affected. Are they simply too out of shape to compete or will they not know how to handle the freedom and blackout at 11am?
Will the return of the Grease Man matter?
That’s right, you head it correct, Mark “Grease Man” Riggi is back. The front office for the Raiders figured out a contract with Riggi after he held out of OTAs this offseason. Mark claims that the Raiders “need him” and likely used that as leverage in the negotiations.
Which Chief will step up in Cunningham’s absence?
As mentioned previously, the Chiefs will be without valuable utility man Eric “Kuttz” Cunningham due to a PED suspension. He has been an integral piece on multiple championship teams not only because of his versatility but because of the edge that he brings. The Chiefs will miss both of these things and want to see who will step up and do a job.
Girth vs length, a tale as old as time
As it has been for the last 5 games, the Chiefs and Raiders have very conflicting styles. The Chiefs average 6’1 - 180 pounds while the Raiders average 5’7 - 230. There’s something to be said for both styles of play and the conditions always play a factor.
Will this be the last Turkey Bowl on Werner?
All signs point to “yes” and if it is indeed the last TB on Werner than we can all agree that it has brought many memories and great times. We’ve seen a goddamn live half time show in the rain, a potential video review, threats, a broken trampoline, a postgame wrestling match, and many other outrageous events. Not many backyard football games have seen that. Let’s honour the land on Saturday.
